As a solopreneur, I am always working in the business and rarely get a chance to focus on my business.
For the first time in a while, I was able to make some time to reflect on this question: What does the future look like?
The future will be lean. That’s the thought that occurred to me, and it made sense. This is not a new concept by any stretch.
AI continues to be in the spotlight. Many cannot stop gushing over it, while some of us are more skeptical of the utopia that AI will supposedly bring about. Wherever you sit on the subject of AI, the reality is that organisations are adopting AI to do more, becoming leaner by reducing their headcount. There have been missteps in this journey, with some organisations recalling staff they replaced with AI. It’s not an admission of defeat, rather, an acknowledgement that the timing wasn’t right. But mark my words, that’s where most organisations are heading. Tragically, there will be job losses, and as a result, many will struggle to find meaning and purpose in their lives.
What does this mean for me? For now, I am continuing to invest in my understanding of the current state of AI and what the future could potentially look like. Rather than going all-in on AI as many in my industry are advocating, I have jumped off the hype train and am looking at AI through the wisdom lens. I am learning to discern between the good and the bad of AI, hoping others (including clients) will consider my viewpoints and include me in their decision-making.
I’m not against AI; rather, I’m trying to warn people not to hand everything over to AI and lose their humanity in the process. I’m actively trying not to “automate everything” with AI, but only using it as a tool in very specific and well-defined circumstances. I want to engage my mind and involve all my senses in everything I do. I won’t just focus on AI, but will certainly continue to upskill in it so I can be educated and informed enough to offer wise insights and solutions to those who ask me. In the meantime, I will continue to ask AI to check my grammar, and generate my featured images!
